Founder & Director, Asthashree Sustainability Foundation
Sustainability is not merely about protecting the environment — it is about protecting humanity, dignity, and the future of generations to come.
My journey over the last several decades — working closely with communities in Dharavi and across urban and rural India — has taught me one fundamental truth: real change begins when people believe they matter. When citizens are informed, empowered, and included, even the most complex social and environmental challenges can be transformed into opportunities for collective progress.
Asthashree Sustainability Foundation (ASF) was born from this conviction.
Asthashree represents eight dimensions of holistic sustainability — social equity, environmental responsibility, ethical governance, education, health, economic inclusion, cultural strength, and institutional resilience. These pillars together form the foundation of a society that is not only developed, but humane, resilient, and future-ready.
At ASF, we work at the grassroots, where change is most needed and most powerful. Whether it is empowering women and youth, promoting sanitation and public health, building environmental consciousness, strengthening disaster resilience, advancing literacy, or supporting senior citizens — our approach remains people-centric, participatory, and purpose-driven. We believe that behavioral change is the most sustainable form of development, and that education and awareness are the strongest tools for nation-building.
In alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ESG principles, ASF strives to bridge the gap between policy and practice, institutions and communities, intent and impact. We seek to transform beneficiaries into stakeholders, and stakeholders into leaders of change.
India stands at a defining moment in its development journey. A Viksit Bharat cannot be achieved by infrastructure alone — it requires responsible citizens, ethical leadership, inclusive growth, and environmental stewardship. Through Asthashree Sustainability Foundation, we are committed to nurturing these values and translating them into action.
I invite citizens, corporates, institutions, policymakers, and young change-makers to join hands with us. Together, let us build a society where development is sustainable, progress is inclusive, and every individual has the opportunity to live with dignity and purpose.
The future is not something we inherit — it is something we create. Let us create it responsibly.
